Information Session: What to Expect and How to Support your Beagle

Required Information Session for Beagle Adopters

HAWS -Main Shelter - 701 Northview Road, Waukesha

Friday May 15th 12-1:30 or 6-7:30

 

This information session is designed to help prepare potential adopters for success. The rescued beagles are now transitioning into a world filled with many new and unfamiliar experiences. During this session, we will discuss important considerations, what to expect when adopting a beagle, and how to help them adjust to their new home.

Each session will be held at HAWS, last approximately 1.5 hours, and will have 20 available spots.

Attendance at this session is required in order to be considered as an applicant for adopting a beagle.

*Attending this session does not gurantee that you will adopt a beagle. 

Infromation Session Highlights:

  • Trauma: Understanding how past experiences may impact behavior, adjustment periods, and emotional responses in newly rescued beagles.
  • Body Language: Learning to recognize stress signals, comfort cues, and communication behaviors to better understand your dog’s needs.
  • Equipment and Safety: Reviewing recommended walking equipment, home safety considerations, and management tools to help keep your beagle safe and secure.
  • Transitions: Discussing how to help your beagle adjust to a new environment, routine, people, and experiences during the decompression period.
  • Potty Training: Setting realistic expectations and learning effective strategies for building consistency and success with house training.
