Kirk Larsen and Kristine Cherek Matching Fundraiser for Elle

Elle was such an important part of our lives, and we know your pets are, too! We have created this campaign in the hope our families, friends, and members of the community will join us in giving to HAWS. Join us and donate in honor of YOUR HAWS’ alumni. Your gift to Annie’s Fund will be matched by us so we can help HAWS help even more animals. Our goal is to raise $20,000 – matching our $10,000 gift with an additional $10,000 from the community.

In 2008, a good samaritan found two kittens hiding outside in the cold Wisconsin winter and brought them to HAWS. They were skinny and sick, but HAWS quickly jumped into action to get them on the road to recovery. When we saw them in together at HAWS, we knew they were meant for us. We named them Elle and Lola, and they quickly became our family. For over 15 years, Elle and her sister Lola have been the constant in our lives through job changes, new homes, a cross country move to Florida, and even a few hurricane evacuations!

Elle was full of personality. She always let you know exactly what she was thinking. She was a true tortie, full of attitude and also lots of love. She was a favorite of the staff at our veterinarian’s office where they always praised her sassy attitude. She had the biggest purrs, especially when she got her ears scratched. She loved to be brushed, loved belly rubs, and spent her days soaking up the sunshine from her favorite windows. She was our heart and our family.

Last fall we celebrated her 15th birthday in style. She was patient enough to let us dress her in a tutu and birthday hat for the celebration.

HAWS does so much for the animals and the people of the community. Elle brought us so much love for over 15 years, and we owe that all to HAWS. When we lost Elle recently, we immediately knew we wanted to do something special to honor her. Giving back to HAWS is our way to not only honor our silly and sassy girl, but also to help other animals in the community get healthy so they can find their forever homes. To do the important work of saving the lives of other animals, HAWS needs support from the community. That’s where we come in. It is our privilege and honor to make this gift to HAWS to help other animals in need.
