Winter Jr. Large Animal Vet Camp
Grades 2-5
Jr. Large Animal Vet Camp gives kids in grades 2–5 a hands-on introduction to the world of large animal veterinary care! Campers will explore what it’s like to care for horses and goats while learning age-appropriate vet skills in a fun, supportive environment. Through games, and close-up animal experiences, kids will gain confidence while discovering how veterinarians help keep large animals healthy and happy.
This camp encourages curiosity, responsibility, and compassion as campers learn how proper care, gentle handling, and teamwork play an important role in animal wellness. No prior experience is needed—just a love for animals and a willingness to learn!
Camp Highlights
-
Hands-On Vet Skills: Practice age-appropriate veterinary tasks like taking vitals.
-
Meet the Patients: Get up close with horses and goats while learning how veterinarians safely approach and handle large animals.
- Play to Learn: Play games to help reinforce concepts introduced throughout the day.
-
Take-Home Learning: Campers create a pretend vet tool to take home and remember what they learned at camp!
NOTE: THIS CAMP WILL BE HELD INSIDE OF OUR SEMI HEATED BARN. THE FACILITY WILL BE WARMER THAN THE OUTDOOR TEMPERATURE, BUT IT CAN STILL GET CHILLY. PLEASE PLAN ACCORDINGLY!
** HAWS has safety as our top priority. Animal interactions and activities involving animals are at staff discretion. Due to weather or for the well-being of our animals, the schedule may be adjusted for the safety and comfort of both the campers and animals.
Morning & Afternoon Care
Drop-off time for those without morning extended care is 8:45am or later. Extended care is available for an extra fee from 8:00 a.m. until 9:00 a.m. and from 4:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. You must register in advance for extended care.
If your child isn’t signed up for morning extended care, please plan to drop them off at 8:45 a.m. or later. A late fee of $1.00 per minute applies for late pickups (after 4:00pm without extended care or after 5:00pm with extended care.) If you think timing might be tight, we recommend signing up for extended care to make things easier for everyone!
For safety reasons, please do not drop children off early unless they’re registered for morning extended care. While staff are on-site, they won’t expect your child unless they’re signed up, and we want to be sure every camper is safely checked in.
Child's Information
It is important to inform HAWS of any special needs; physical, medical, mental or emotional, that your child may have so that we can provide a successful HAWS experience. Failure to inform HAWS of any of these needs that are necessary to know when instructing your child may result in your child being unable to participate and a loss of program fees.
Payment and Registration
There will be a 30% administrative fee for all cancellations. There will be no refunds or transfers given within two weeks of the start of the program session.
